Education is an area that has several professionals, permeated by many discourses, in which it is common to have speeches about professional devaluation, structural precariousness, low financial income and other factors that can bring personal and professional losses. Based on these premises, this study explores the performance of Educational Counselors (OE) and the impact of school demands on the illness of professionals, focusing on Burnout Syndrome. As a general objective, it seeks to reflect on the attributions of Educational Advisors, articulating them with their professional practice and analyzing the factors that contribute to mental illness, especially Burnout Syndrome, among education professionals in the municipal public school system of Sapucaia do Sul/RS. From this, the triangulation of information was carried out between the current legislation, scientific studies on the Burnout Syndrome and a survey carried out by the institution that represents the professional category, whose focus was to ascertain the mental health of workers. This study is justified due to the high rate of sick leave and the search for mental health treatment, which can be caused by the multiple forms of violence to which education workers are subjected. Methodologically, this research is a descriptive and exploratory study of the bibliographic review and documentary research. The results indicate that 49.3% of education workers in Sapucaia do Sul reported leaves due to mental health issues after entering the public service. Work overload, wage devaluation and lack of adequate support were identified as the main causes for the development of mental disorders, with Burnout Syndrome being one of the most recurrent. The survey also points to the urgent need for public policies and preventive actions aimed at the mental health of education professionals.
